Baptistonia echinata

This Brazilian species was segregated out of Oncidium into the monotypic genus Baptistonia. A very nice species in its own right, particularly when grown warm, it also has unique properties in hybridizing. It yields seedlings that flower very early with multiple flowers.

Another strong combination, of which the flower characteristics are somewhat hard to predict. Onc. tigrinum is a cooler growing species with large yellow flowers that has been used extensively in hybridizing.

Large sprays of purple flowers combined with large sprays of yellow flowers . Both parents are cool to intermediate growing. Onc. chrysomorphum probably belongs in another Odont. genus, it is not a typical Oncidium. Onc. chrysomorphum is a cool grower that does not need to dry out.
